Taking a full backup
In cPanel, go to Files → Backup.
Under Full Account Backup, click Download or Generate a Full Website Backup.
Choose a backup destination (Home Directory is simplest; remote destinations like a secondary FTP/S3 location are safer).
Click Generate Backup — cPanel will email you when it’s ready to download.
Taking a partial backup (faster, more targeted)
Under Partial Backups, you can download just your Home Directory, a specific MySQL Database, your Email Forwarders, or your Email Filters individually — useful when you only need to roll back one part of your site.
Restoring a backup
Go to Files → Backup, then under Restore a Full Account Backup, upload your backup archive.
For partial restores, use the corresponding upload field (Home Directory, database, etc.) under Partial Backups.
Restoration can take several minutes depending on file/database size — avoid navigating away mid-process.
Our recommended backup schedule
- Daily automated backups for active e-commerce or high-change sites.
- Weekly backups for low-change brochure sites.
- Always keep at least one backup copy off-server (cloud storage or downloaded locally) — a backup stored only on the same server won’t help if that server has a hardware failure.
